Purple day
Purple day is celebrated annually on March 26th to help increase awareness about epilepsy and to also help support those who might be living with them conditions. Purple day started to help encourage people to wear purple and to try the best there can, to engage in activities and to help raise awareness about epilepsy. Around 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy which is why purple day was created.
Founded in 2008 by Cassidy Megan, a young girl with epilepsy. Purple day is international grassroots effort dedicated to raising awareness about the neurological disorder epilepsy. The day was created to help educate people about the disorder, so then people are more aware about it. Cassidy Megan decided to have purple day on March 26th as she thought it was the best day to help the world spread awareness about the disorder and to show support for those affected by the condition.
The Yorkshire Evening Post put out a statistic saying that with 1 in 26 people in Yorkshire expected to develop epilepsy at some point in their lives. The Yorkshire post also managed to get an interview with Dr Susanne Hager who told the Yorkshire Post that “the best action you can take to support someone who has learnt they have epilepsy is to educate yourself”.
